LG UltraFine OLED 32BP95E and 27BP95E Monitors Announced with Built In Calibration Sensor

We have already seen back in January the announcement of two new OLED monitors from LG in their UltraFine line-up. The LG 32EP950 and 27EP950 are 31.5″ and 27″ in size respectively and are aimed at high end professional users, HDR production and colour critical work. Their OLED technology panels offer a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and importantly per pixel dimming for true blacks and an infinite contrast ratio. The screens also have a wide colour gamut covering 99% of the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB reference spaces, along with 10-bit colour depth and hardware calibration support.

According to a recent digital conference, those initial two models are going to be joined in the market by the LG 32BP95E and 27BP95E, again 31.5″ and 27″ in size. The specs will remain largely the same but these new BP models will also include a built-in calibration sensor and come packaged with a shading hood. They are basically slightly more advanced (and likely expensive) versions of the original EP models.

Spec wise we know that all four of these OLED monitors will offer a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 1ms G2G response time (realistic on an OLED panel), 60Hz refresh rate, 1 million:1 contrast ratio (again, realistic), 250 cd/m2 standard brightness, 540 cd/m2 peak brightness for HDR, 178/178 viewing angles, true 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3 and 99% Adobe RGB.

The displays are all certified to the “VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black” standard which is designed for OLED displays. The per pixel dimming of this technology will ensure excellent HDR performance and contrast ratio that surpasses anything possible from LCD technology at the moment. This will be backed by the wide colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth support for excellent HDR visuals.

All four models will come factory calibrated and feature support for hardware calibration as well via applicable calibration devices. The newly announced BP models will feature a built-in calibration sensor as well, helping to keep that part of things simple and automated over time. A shading hood will also come packaged with the BP models.

For connectivity there is 1x USB type-C (power delivery of 90W), 2x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI (unclear on which version), 1x headphone out and 3x USB ports listed so far. KVM capability is also listed for the EP models but it is unclear if this will be carried over to the BP models at the moment. The stand features tilt, height and rotate functions. There are some reports that the stand on the BP models will be a different square design to the EP’s curved foot.

All four OLED monitors are expected to be available from the summer 2021. At a press event, LG spoke of a price range between 3,000 and 4,000 euros (RRP), but final pricing is still to be confirmed. More info when we get it.
