ViewSonic Elite XG321UG with 32″ IPS Panel, 4K, 144Hz, G-sync Ultimate and Mini LED Backlight

At this year’s CES 2021 event in January 2021 ViewSonic announced a selection of new Elite gaming screens in their range. One model in particular deserved it’s own news piece given it’s high end spec and feature set. The Elite XG321UG is a 32″ sized IPS screen offering a 4K resolution, high 144Hz refresh rate, NVIDIA G-sync Ultimate and a Mini LED backlight with HDR 1400 certification. The XG321UG is ViewSonic’s alternative to the already released (and reviewed) Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX and Acer Predator X32 displays, based on the same 32″ AU Optronics panel and with many similar specs and features.
ViewSonic Elite XG321UG Specs
The panel offers a 3840 x 2160 4K resolution IPS-type panel along with a 3ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth (up to 120Hz max) and a wide colour gamut thanks to Quantum Dot coating with 98% DCI-P3, 160% sRGB and 99% Adobe RGB quoted.
150Hz Refresh rate with Native NVIDIA G-sync Ultimate

At the time of the CES press release ViewSonic talked about an “Absolute control” 144Hz refresh rate – we are not entirely clear what this “absolute control” referred to and speculated at the time that maybe it would also be capable of supporting NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer technology. This doesn’t seem to be the case though based on the more recent product page and so it seems it perhaps just refers to the mild overclock ViewSonic have included, allowing you to push all the way up from 144Hz to a whopping 150Hz (we’re being sarcastic here). The screen does also include the ‘NVIDIA G-sync Ultimate’ certification and the screen features a Native G-sync hardware module.
Mini LED backlight and HDR 1400
We do know that the screen will feature a 1,152 zone Mini LED backlight and is capable of offering a peak brightness of 1400 cd/m2. This achieves the VESA DisplayHDR 1400 certification as a result. With the 1,152 zone Mini LED backlight it helps to offer high end local dimming support beyond previous FALD backlight options with more dimming zones. We looked at this in more detail in our Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX review (featuring the same panel and backlight).
The screen is designed to be a productive companion outside of games, too. Making full use of the desktop real estate offered by a 4K resolution isn’t always practical on a 27” monitor. Many users take advantage of 4K displays’ high pixel density by scaling up the Windows desktop for smoother text rendering, but for those who want to use all of the real estate available from a 4K resolution, the 32” diagonal expanse of the XG321UG offers a pixel density which may be better suited to running the Windows desktop without scaling, or if not, at least at a lower scaling level like 125% to give you a bit of a boost in desktop real-estate.
Connectivity options

For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) and 3x HDMI 2.0 along with 3x USB ports and an audio output. The screen also includes 2x 5W integrated speakers. The stand offers tilt, height and rotate adjustments. The back of the screen includes RGB lighting too we should note.
The XG321UG is expected in Q4 2021 although firm release dates and pricing has yet to be announced. More info when we get it.
