Philips Momentum 279M1RV Announced with 27″ IPS Panel, 4K, 144Hz and HDMI 2.1

Philips have just announced the release of a new monitor in their Momentum line-up, the 27″ sized 279M1RV. This complements the previously announced 55″ 559M1RV and 31.58″ 329M1RV models, offering something a little smaller if you want a more modestly sized screen. All three of these models are part of their Momentum “Designed for Xbox” line-up, with features designed to make the most of modern games consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 also. This allows for 4K 120Hz gaming and features like VRR too. The 27″ model discussed here offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and includes HDMI 2.1 connectivity.

279M1RV Specs

The screen is 27″ in size and features a Nano IPS technology panel. It has a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth and a wide 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut. To support the 144Hz refresh rate, the screen uses adaptive sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems, it is also certified as ‘G-sync Compatible’ under NVIDIA’s scheme, giving some re-assurances around VRR performance.

HDR 600 support and Ambiglow included

The Philips Momentum 279M1RV is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified with 600 nits peak luminance and the increased colour gamut discussed above. The screen is also equipped with Ambiglow, the Philips technology that adds a new dimension to the viewing experience by creating a halo of matching light from the LEDs on the monitor’s rear cover. The immersion goes a step further with DTS Sound from the integrated 2x 5W speakers, which enables a virtual surround sound experience, complete with rich bass, dialogue enhancement and maximised volume levels free of any clipping or distortion.

Connectivity including HDMI 2.1 and USB-type C

The screen includes 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 3x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and 65W power delivery). There is also an audio output. The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments.

Availability and Price

The 279M1RV is expected to be available from November 2021 at an RRP of £719.99 in the UK
