LG 38GN950 Now Available to Pre-order – Full Information Included
We brought you a sneak peak of the forthcoming LG 38GN950 back in January, and we now have some more detailed information about the screen as well as the availability of the first pre-orders. The 38GN950 is an adaptive-sync alternative to the excellent Native G-sync 38GL950G display we reviewed in February. While that model did actually allow support for both NVIDIA and AMD systems, it featured a hardware G-sync module. This new model keeps many of the specs and features of the other, but uses normal adaptive-sync to support VRR from both graphics card platforms. The VRR performance should be solid though as the screen has been certified under both the NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ schemes.
The 38GN950 has a native 144Hz refresh rate and supports a small overclock up to 160Hz as well. This is a little lower than the 38GL950G allowed which could reach 175Hz thanks to the hardware G-sync module. The VRR range supported is 48 – 160Hz with LFC. There is also a “1ms Motion Blur Reduction” backlight option available.
The 38GN950 is 37.5″ in size with an ultrawide format and 24:10 aspect ratio. It has a 3840 x 1600 resolution Nano IPS panel from LG.Display. This is a slightly updated version from the 38GL950G as the screen now also supports VESA DisplayHDR 600. This includes some edge-lit local dimming, and support for a wide 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth.
In other specs there is a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness (600 cd/m2 peak for HDR), and 178/178 viewing angles.
The screen has 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 ports and a headphone connection. The stand offers tilt and height adjustments. There is also an integrated RGB ‘Sphere Lighting 2.0’ system on the back of the screen with various options available.
