Lenovo Legion Y27gq with 27″ 240Hz TN Film Panel, 1440p Resolution and G-sync
Lenovo aren’t a major manufacturer in the monitor market, but at CES 2019 this week they have announced the forthcoming release of several new displays in their lineup which look interesting.
The Legion Y27gq is 27″ in size and features a 2560 x 1440 resolution TN Film panel. It is aimed at eSports gaming and also boasts a very high 240Hz refresh rate, and support for NVIDIA G-sync. This will be the first 240Hz refresh rate panel we’ve seen which has a 1440p resolution, with previous 240Hz screens being limited to 1920 x 1080. We knew these panels were in development from AU Optronics, as detailed in our recent news article about their roadmap. Panel production we expected late Q4, so this looks like it will be the first to emerge using the new res/refresh rate option.
The response time is listed as 0.5ms G2G as well, which is part of AU Optronics’ ongoing investment in driving response times to meet growing refresh rates. A 90% DCI-P3 coverage is also listed in the spec known so far, offering a wider colour gamut which is not common in the gaming market yet. NVIDIA G-sync HDR is mentioned in the Lenovo specs announcements as well, although full details of the level of HDR and if/how local dimming will be supported is not clear at this time. It may simply mean that it is using the v2 G-sync module (which can support HDR) which is needed to power this resolution and refresh rate anyway and provide the relevant connection options.

DisplayPort (must be v1.4 for this res/refresh) and HDMI (presumably v2.0) connections are provided. Those video connections are going to be needed to drive 1440p at 240Hz.
The Y27gq is expected to be available around April at a retail price of $999.99 USD.
Update 13/3/19: We can now bring you some more information about this display thanks to Lenovo’s spec page. The screen features a “NearEdgeless” design according to the spec page, which is a 3-side borderless panel to you and I. There is a detachable Harman Kardon certified speaker for audio support, which sits at the base of the stand. There is also an audio combo jack. A convenient headset hook allows users to keep their headsets away safely, reducing desktop clutter. 3x USB 3.0 ports are included, and the stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments. DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports are confirmed as per our earlier expectation. The website says “coming this Spring”
