Gigabyte have released details of their new M28U gaming monitor on their website. It’s 28″ in size and features a Super Speed IPS panel offering 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution. This is combined with a high 144Hz refresh rate, and adaptive-sync for VRR support from both NVIDIA and AMD systems (including FreeSync Premium Pro certification). It features loads of modern connectivity options too with DisplayPort 1.4 and DSC, 2x HDMI 2.1 and USB type-C.

The M28U is advertised on their page as “The World’s first KVM gaming monitor”, but then they have the exact same claim on some of their other screens including the M32Q and M27Q for instance. Which one is the first then Gigabyte? They can’t all take that title! The KVM feature allows you to control multiple devices via one set of keyboard, video and mouse. With a simple KVM button it’s easy to switch inputs as well.

M28U Specs

Spec wise the 28″ IPS panel offers a 3840 x 2160 resolution, 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 94% DCI-P3 (120% sRGB).

A 2ms MPRT spec is also listed as the screen will support Gigabyte’s strobing blur reduction backlight “Aim Stabilizer Sync” technology which can also be used at the same time as VRR.

DisplayPort with DSC and HDMI 2.1 included

For connectivity 1x DisplayPort 1.4 is provided for PC’s which includes the use of DSC (Display Stream Compression) to support 4K @ 144Hz without the need to sacrifice colour levels. That’s great to see included. There are also 2x HDMI 2.1 ports provided which will also support the latest graphics cards if needed without colour sacrifice, as well as support latest generation games consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Gigabyte have also included 1x USB type-C connection and 3x USB 3.0 ports on this model. A headphone connection is also provided and the screen includes 2x 3W built-in speakers.

The usual array of gaming enhancements are provided including Gigabyte’s OSD sidekick software, game assist modes, Black Equalizer controls etc. The stand offers tilt and height adjustments as well.
