Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD 27″ Gaming Monitor with 144Hz IPS Panel

Gigabyte aren’t a manufacturer you would normally associate with the monitor market, but they have recently released an interesting screen – their new Aorus AD27QD. This is a 27″ sized display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution IPS-type panel, aimed at gaming. It offers a 144Hz refresh rate and also boasts a supposed 1ms MPRT response time.

Firstly when it comes to refresh rate the 144Hz native refresh rate is supported for variable refresh rates from compatible AMD FreeSync graphics cards. It’s not currently in NVIDIA’s “G-sync Compatible” certified list but VRR should also work of course from modern NVIDIA G-sync cards as long as you have the necessary OS, drivers etc. The response time spec talked about on their spec page is 1ms, although this does mention MPRT as opposed to G2G figure. They talk in their features about improving the panel response times, but wWe expect the underlying pixel response times to be consistent with other 4 – 5ms G2G specs for similar 27″ IPS gaming screens. There’s no specific talk of any blur reduction backlight which would often be present when manufacturers quote very low MPRT specs.

In other specs there is a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth and a 95% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut.

Gigabyte talk in their features page about how the screen offers a wide gamut with high DCI-P3 coverage, and also promotes the 10-bit colour depth support. VESA DisplayHDR certification is mentioned in the features, but this doesn’t appear to actually conform to any of the current levels, even the lowly HDR400 classification (as the brightness isn’t sufficient). We are not aware of any local dimming support, so while this probably supports an HDR input, there is probably not any meaningful HDR output beyond the colour depth and DCI-P3 gamut.

There are DisplayPort 1.2 and 2x HDMI 2.0 connections offered for video, along with a headphone hack and 2x USB 3.0 ports. A full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments are offered from the stand as well. There are some RGB lighting options built in to the monitor as well with support for the “RGB Fusion 2.0” app.
