BenQ SW270C Photographer Monitor with AdobeRGB Gamut and Professional Features
BenQ are set to release a new ‘Photographer Monitor’ in their SW range, featuring a 27″ screen size, wide colour gamut and a range of professional features. The SW270C is heavily promoted for its colour accuracy, and also features BenQ’s new ‘AQCOLOR’ technology.
The BenQ website describes AQCOLOR as follows: “Devoted to meet the latest professional color standard, BenQ has developed AQCOLOR technology to uphold the concept: “Accurate Reproduction”. BenQ has invited color experts to lead the team, and also actively participated in ICC (International Color Consortium) and ISO (International Standard Organization) to establish color-related standards and implementation in order to provide consistent and accurate colors…. BenQ’s SW270C monitor offers the out-of-box color accuracy that guarantees users can enjoy the most trustworthy color performance. “
There is a 99% AdobeRGB colour gamut offered which also allows for 100% sRGB and 97% DCI-P3 coverage. The 16 bit look up table (LUT) improves RGB color blending accuracy, resulting in impeccable color reproduction and Delta E ≤ 2 in AdobeRGB and sRGB color space renders the truest and most representative view of the original image. SW270C guarantees the silkiest and smoothest color gradations with 10-bit panel from a 16-bit look-up-table (LUT) by gamma correction, which shows more than one billion colors for natural color transitions and subtle shading.
Hardware calibration allows you to adjust the monitor’s internal image processing chip without changing the graphics card output data, keeping displayed images consistent with the original content without being affected by graphic card setting. Their provided Palette Master software works with a range of popular calibration devices. The screen also features a uniformity correction feature which is often found on high end professional screens.
Spec wise the 27″ screen uses a 2560 x 1440 resolution IPS panel. There is a 5ms G2G response time, 60Hz refresh rate, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles.
As with most new screens nowadays, HDR is talked about on the product page as well although we are not expecting much more than support for an HDR input along with the included wider colour gamut support of the backlight. Don’t expect any local dimming support here.
Connectivity wise there is a USB Type-C connection along with 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, 1x Mini USB 3.0 and a headphone jack. There is also an integrated card reader on this model (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC types). The stand provides a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.
A specially designed detachable shading hood can effectively reduce the monitor’s screen glare from ambient lighting for superb color accuracy. BenQ’s useful Hotkey puck is also included to make control of the monitor settings and OSD quick and easy.
