Asus ProArt PA27UCX Professional Monitor Announced with 4K HDR Mini LED

Asus have released some information about an interesting new screen in their professional ProArt range. The PA27UCX is 27″ in size and features a 4K 3840 x 2160 resolution panel. We have previously seen a 32″ size model announced in the form of the PA32UCX, back in January 2019 so this is the smaller 27″ equivalent. Of most interest is the use of a Mini LED backlight, offering advanced local dimming beyond the capabilities of modern Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) solutions.

This Mini LED backlight offers superior, more detailed local dimming capability for HDR content, beyond the current FALD backlights used in the top end displays right now . Those are limited to around 384-zones on current 27″ models, but thanks to Mini LED this model will offer 576 zones for a potentially better HDR experience. This is a lot less zones than we saw announced on the 32″ model (1000+ zones) but is still hopefully a decent improvement over current FALD offerings.

For HDR we know that the screen can support HDR 10 and HLG content. The backlight offers a DCI-P3 colour gamut, the panel has a 10-bit colour depth support, and the screen is compliant with the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard, meaning it can also produce at least 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness (1200 cd/m2 expected based on what we saw from the 32″ model).

The screen also comes with a factory calibration for dE <2, and includes support for hardware level calibration of the internal LUT as well. Hardware calibration helps ensure optimal accuracy and control for colour critical work and professional uses.

Connectivity wise USB type-C, DisplayPort and HDMI are all mentioned in the spec holding page, along with a USB 3.0 hub.

No word on pricing or official availability yet, although it is expected to be soon. More info as we get it.
