Back in June 2021 MSI announced a new model in their Optix eSports line-up of displays. The Optix MPG321UR-QD is a 32″ sized display with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate combined. It’s based on an IPS technology panel and offers a reported 1ms G2G response time as well as Quantum Dot coating for a wide colour gamut. HDMI 2.1 connectivity is also promoted making it suitable for modern games consoles and graphics cards.

MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD Spec

The screen is 32″ in size and features a 3840 x 2160 (UltraHD, “4K”) resolution IPS-type panel. There is a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 97% DCI-P3 and 99% of the Adobe RGB reference spaces (99% sRGB also quoted). The wide gamut is made possible through the use of Quantum Dot coating. The high 144Hz refresh rate is supported via adaptive sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems.

HDR 600 support

The screen also carries the VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification which includes a peak brightness of 600 cd/m2, and makes use of the aforementioned 10-bit colour depth and wide colour gamut. It will also require some form of backlight local dimming and we believe this will be 16 zones like competing models such as the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQ we reviewed recently.

Blur Reduction, RGB Lighting and other features

The monitor also includes a blur reduction mode which gives rise to a 1ms MPRT spec. There are some RGB lighting features on the back of the screen as shown in the provided images, although these are subtle and small. The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments.

Connectivity options including HDMI 2.1

The screen has1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (DP Alt mode supported) for video. The inclusion of those two HDMI 2.1 ports will be welcome to those who want to use the screen for modern PS5 and Xbox Series X games consoles with 4K 120Hz supported, along with VRR too (where supported by the console). There are also 6x USB 2.0 ports and 3x upstream type-B ports allowing for 4 systems to be connected and to use the screen as a KVM. A headphone out, mic input and 3.5mm combo jack are also provided for audio.

The monitor has a $999 USD MSRP but release date has not been confirmed yet.
