MSI Oculux NXG253R eSports Monitor with 360Hz Refresh, NVIDIA G-sync and Reflex Analyzer

MSI are set to release a new gaming monitor in their ‘Oculux’ line-up. The NXG253R is a 24.5″ sized screen with a ‘Rapid IPS’ panel, 1080p resolution and a 360Hz refresh rate. It’s aimed firmly at gaming and eSports but has an impressive set of features and specs. This includes Native G-sync support with the NVIDIA hardware module for excellent VRR experience, and also built-in NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer.

NXG253R Specs

Spec wise the screen is 24.5″ in size and has a so-called Rapid IPS panel. This offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles and a 10-bit colour depth support (8-bit+FRC).

Wide gamut support?

The screen is also promoted as offering a wide colour gamut which is different to the other 360Hz monitors we’ve seen so far that only offered a standard 99% sRGB gamut. However if you look more closely we’re not sure you could really call this “wide gamut”, more like “slightly boosted gamut”. MSI advertise an 84.09% DCI-P3 coverage and 109.63% sRGB. For comparison we measured 71.7% DCI-P3 and 96.5% sRGB from the Asus ROG swift PG259QN when we tested it. So a bit of a boost here on the MSI screen, but nothing drastic.

360Hz with Native NVIDIA G-sync

The 360Hz refresh rate is obviously a key part of this screen. We were impressed by the similar Asus ROG Swift PG259QN when we reviewed it last year. This is supported by a Native G-sync hardware module which should provide excellent VRR experience, a full 1 – 360Hz VRR range and other benefits such as variable overdrive and super-low input lag. The screen has been co-developed with NVIDIA as well with MSI’s website promoting other key benefits of NVIDIA RTX gaming

Some people might want a higher resolution than the 1080p offered here, but this is a suitable res for a screen this size. And a lot of gamers still tend to play at 1080p anyway, especially when you consider the system demands of trying to push such a high 360Hz refresh rate. The MSI website says that “the 360Hz displays powered by NVIDIA G-SYNC are 1.5X faster than conventional 240HZ displays and take full advantage of ultra-high frame rates in today’s biggest game titles such as VALORANT, Fortnite, CS: GO, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, and Apex Legends. Visualize and experience the extremely fluid gameplay with no latency to ensure precision targeting.”

NVIDIA ULMB and Reflex Latency Analyzer Included

ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur) is also provided but only up to 240Hz maximum, but useful for those who like blur reduction backlights. NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer is also built in to the screen which captures end-to-end system latency, and delivers a precise measurement of your PC’s performance. It can help you step confidently into battle knowing your PC is performing at peak level and works hand in hand with NVIDIA graphics cards.

Connections and other features

The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate functions. The Oculux gaming monitor provides a soft ambient light in its back panel, and MSI Mystic Light allows you to select any of the colors from the palette to match your system to your taste. For connectivity because of the use of the Native G-sync module there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0 connections provided. There are also 3x USB 3.2 downstream ports and a headphone jack.
