A familiar look

LG are set to release the successor to their very popular 27GL850 display, still one of the most popular models on the market. This new 27GP850 model will be part of their UltraGear gaming line-up and boasts an increased refresh rate compared with the older model. The 27GP850 has a 27″ Nano IPS panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a refresh rate up to 180Hz.

Spec wise the 27″ Nano IPS panel offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit+FRC colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 98% DCI-P3.

The native refresh rate is 165Hz but there is an overclocking function to boost this up to 180Hz as well. This is supported by adaptive sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems, with the screen expected to be certified under the FreeSync Premium and G-sync Compatible schemes.

MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) is included as a strobe backlight setting – a feature the original 27GL850 lacked. Gamers can choose Gamer, FPS, or RTS mode, and customize their experience. The settings can be adjusted and optimized for any type of game. Other familiar gamer settings like Black Stabilizer and crosshair graphics are provided too.

The stand provides tilt, height and rotate adjustments. For connectivity there are DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports along with a headphone jack.

The screen is listed on LG’s website at a price of $499.99 and has started to appear on some regional Amazon (affiliate link) sites too like in the US (at the same price). On Amazon there is a 1 – 2 month expected shipping date, so it is only available for pre-order right now. The original 27GN850 is also still available in most regions from Amazon (affiliate link)
