At a special launch even in Vietnam at the beginning of April Gigabyte showcased their new 43.4″ sized Aorus FV43U display. This offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution combined with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT (moving picture response time) spec, which is possible because of the availability of a motion blur reduction backlight. The FV43U also includes HDR 1000 certification and HDMI 2.1 connectivity for the latest generation consoles and graphics cards.

Powering a screen at 4K and 144Hz is going to be a challenge for any system. Oddly the Gigabyte product page that is now available does not mention VRR support at all, and this was not discussed at the press event either. They don’t mention G-sync or FreeSync anywhere on the product page, but this will almost certainly include adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible NVIDIA and AMD systems. Gigabyte do however list that this screen features their ‘Aim Stabilizer Sync’ technology which allows you to use the blur reduction backlight at the same time as VRR. It’s just odd that they don’t talk about VRR support at all?!

The FV43U features a VA technology panel and in other specs Gigabyte confirmed that it would offer a 4000:1 contrast ratio, 750 cd/m2 brightness (1000 cd/m2 peak for HDR), 178/178 viewing angles. There is a wide colour gamut thanks to the use of Quantum Dot coating covering 97% of the DCI-P3 space, along with a 10-bit colour depth (8-bit+FRC panel). Gigabyte also list a 99% Adobe RGB, 150% sRGB and 79% Rec.2020 coverage in their promotional video (linked below).

The screen has also been certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard, allowing for a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m2, and requiring backlight local dimming to be featured. This will be edge lit with a limited number of zones similar to other recently announced screens of this size such as the Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ.

Connectivity includes HDMI 2.1 which means support for 4K @ 144Hz from the latest PC graphics cards and 4K @ 120Hz from the latest games consoles, and also means the inclusion of features like HDMI-org VRR and ALLM too. DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC), USB type-C and 2x USB 3.0 ports are also provided along with a headphone jack and audio output.

The screen also includes 2x 12W ‘Space Audio’ speakers with a range of modes for optimized sound experience. This promises more spatial and louder sound for your uses. There is even a bundled remote control with the screen.

Familiar Gigabyte Aorus “tactical” features are included like cross-hairs, timers, counters etc. There is also a built-in KVM switch. The stand does not offer any adjustments at all given the size, it’s more like a TV in that regard. The screen is VESA 200mm mounting compliant though if you’d rather.

A promotional video was released by Gigabyte towards the end of April which has more information about the screen:
