Quietly showcased at this year’s CES event a few weeks ago was a new 31.5″ screen from Dell in their UltraSharp Premium range, the UP3221Q. This screen offers a 3840 x 2160 UltraHD (“4K”) resolution and is aimed at colour critical work and professional users. It offers a built-in colorimeter supported CalMAN calibration and even has a 2000 zone Mini LED backlight for impressive LCD local dimming capabilities.

The 2000 zone Mini LED backlight is a step beyond even recently announced models like the Asus ProArt PA32UCG which had “only” 1152 zones. That screen does offer other features like a high 120Hz refresh rate that’s not offered here though (the Dell is 60Hz only). This should help improve the HDR capabilities and reduce blooming and halos in HDR content.

For HDR capabilities the screen is certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 level, including a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m2. A wide colour gamut is supported from the backlight but exact DCI-P3, Adobe RGB and BT.2020 coverage specs are not included.

Connectivity includes a ThunderBolt 3.
