Showcased at this year’s Gamescom event was the new Alienware AW2720HF display from Dell, a new 27″ IPS monitor with 1080p resolution. Aimed firmly at gamers, this will be one of the first monitors on the market to offer an IPS panel with native 240Hz refresh rate. We have already seen Acer announce their Predator XV273K as well, so it looks like more 27″ 240Hz IPS options will be appearing in the coming months.
Dell list on their “coming soon” page that the screen will offer a 1ms response time (with overdrive), although given our recent testing of the LG 27GL850 which is marketed in this way, we would take that with a pinch of salt. It’s likely to be only achievable in the most extreme overdrive examples and with loads of overshoot. AMD FreeSync is supported for variable refresh rates, which means the screen should also support NVIDIA G-sync thanks to the Jan 2019 driver updates.
We know that the screen is 27″ in size and will feature a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Being an IPS panel (from AU Optronics) we expect other specs to include 1000:1 contrast ratio, 178/178 viewing angles and an 8-bit colour depth. A standard 99% sRGB gamut is confirmed on the Dell website.
The AW2720HF is expected to be available mid September at $599.99 USD. More info and specs when we get them.
