We originally brought you news of this screen back in August 2019 where it was announced at the Gamescom event. We now have a bit more information courtesy of Taiwanese retail store Taobao. The XG279Q is part of the Asus ROG Strix gaming lineup and is 27″ in size, featuring an IPS technology panel. The refresh rate seems to have been boosted slightly through an overclocking option, now advertised as 170Hz which is a slight improvement over the originally expected 165Hz. This is backed by adaptive-sync giving VRR support for AMD and NVIDIA systems. The spec also suggests that it has been (or soon will be) officially certified as NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’.

Spec wise the screen is 27″ in size and offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 1ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering >90% of the DCI-P3 colour space. This covers around 125% of the normal sRGB reference, helping to boost the vividness of colours for gaming and multimedia. The screen also looks to come with a factory calibration. It looks like the screen will use the Innolux high refresh rate IPS panel as opposed to LG.Display’s Nano IPS option.

There is mention in the spec pages that the screen may also feature their ELMB-sync technology, for simultaneous blur reduction backlight and VRR.

The screen does carry the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification but don’t expect any meaningful HDR experience here beyond support for that slightly higher 400 cd/m2 brightness and the wider DCI-P3 colour gamut.

The screen includes various familiar ROG and Aura sync lighting extras that some people like. There are DisplayPort 1.2, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 and a headphone jack provided for connectivity. 2x 2W RMS speakers are also integrated. A full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments are offered from the stand.

No confirmation yet on availability or pricing in Europe or the US. More information when we get it.
