Acer Predator X38 S with 37.5″ IPS Panel, 175Hz Refresh Rate and G-sync Ultimate
Acer have announced today their new Predator X38 S gaming display, a 37.5″ ultrawide screen with a 3840 x 1600 resolution, 175Hz overclocked refresh rate, Native G-sync Ultimate certification and NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer. This is an updated model to their old X38 P and will feature some updated specs and technologies.
Spec wise the screen is 37.5″ in size, has a 2300R curve, and a 3840 x 1600 resolution IPS panel. There is an advertised 0.3ms G2G response time (take this with a pinch of salt), and although not yet confirmed we would expect other specs to include 1000:1 contrast ratio, 600 cd/m2 brightness and 178/178 viewing angles. The native refresh rate of the panel is 144Hz but an overclocking feature allows you to boost this up to 175Hz. The screen comes factory calibrated with a dE <2 as well.
The HDR capabilities have been updated since the old model too, now featuring HDR 600 which requires some form of backlight local dimming (edge lit here with limited number of zones). There is also the required wide colour gamut, with 98% DCI-P3 coverage quoted. 10-bit colour depth input will also be supported.
The Predator X38 S also includes the NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer, a revolutionary system latency measurement tool that detects clicks coming from the mouse and then measures the time it takes for the resulting pixels (i.e., a gun muzzle flash) to change on screen. This can help you measure your actual end to end latency, allowing you to then optimise settings and options and confirm that things are behaving as you expect them to.
Predator Game Mode offers players eight pre-set (customizable) display modes to suit different genres of content, while Acer LightSense and Acer ColorSense make automatic adjustments to screen brightness and color temperature based on the environment.
A specific ‘NVIDIA GSYNC Esports’ Mode is a display preset designed for competitive gaming that ensures the lowest possible latency by turning off variable backlight and makes it easier to distinguish objects in dark areas by increasing black levels and fine tuning gamma levels. At the moment other specs like connection options are not listed, but given this is a Native G-sync screen with their hardware module, we would expect 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2 or 3 HDMI 2.0 ports, along with some USB ports for good measure.
According to the press release, the Predator X38 S will be available will be available in North America in September starting at USD 1,999.99; in EMEA in September starting at EUR 2,199
